Whites Bar
If you ever find yourself wandering through Dundee and craving a local spot that’s full of energy, character, and a pint of something cold in hand, Whites Bar on Provost Road is one of those places that hits differently. It’s not your trendy, Instagrammable cocktail bar - and that’s precisely its charm. Whites Bar is the kind of down-to-earth, proper neighborhood pub where good times don’t require fancy trimmings, just good company and a great selection of drinks.
Right away, what sets Whites Bar apart is its old-school authenticity. The space is cozy, welcoming, and unpretentious, with a layout that feels like it’s been designed more for people than for photos. You don’t walk in to be seen - you walk in to enjoy yourself. The locals here have turned it into their second home, and the warmth of that atmosphere is palpable. It’s the kind of spot where regulars greet you with a nod and the bar staff remembers your drink after one round.
Now, speaking of drinks - Whites Bar doesn’t mess around when it comes to their selection. If you’re a beer lover, this is your playground. There’s a solid rotation of draught and bottled beers, from classic Scottish ales to crowd-pleasing lagers. For those who prefer something with a little more kick, their spirits shelf is stacked with everything from smooth whiskies to flavorful gins. Wine drinkers aren’t left out either; you’ll find a decent choice whether you’re going red, white, or rosé.
But what really keeps the vibe alive here is the entertainment. Karaoke nights at Whites Bar are practically legendary in this corner of Dundee. Whether you're a seasoned mic hog or someone who needs a little liquid courage to belt out an 80s ballad, there’s something delightfully freeing about the way this place embraces all singers - pitch-perfect or tone-deaf. It’s not about being good, it’s about having fun, and this bar delivers that in spades.
Another big draw is the sports. Whites Bar is one of those places where the matchday buzz kicks in early. With big games showing on the screens and punters gathering in anticipation, there’s a shared energy that’s hard to replicate. Football fans, in particular, will appreciate the no-nonsense approach here: just a cold drink, a good seat, and all eyes on the action. There’s no flashy décor distracting you, just the sound of cheers (and sometimes groans) as the match unfolds.
Despite being simple in its offerings - no food, no delivery, no takeaway - Whites Bar doesn’t try to be something it’s not. And that’s exactly what makes it stand out in a city increasingly filled with overdesigned spots trying to chase trends. It focuses on what matters: a sense of community, consistent service, quality drinks, and entertainment that connects people.
For accessibility, they’ve made efforts to keep the entrance wheelchair-friendly, and the facilities are kept tidy and usable - another plus point for those looking for a straightforward night out without any logistical headaches. It might not come with velvet ropes or craft cocktail menus, but it comes with real value for anyone seeking a laid-back, social space that gets the basics right and adds some fun on top.
From spontaneous karaoke duets to raucous sports nights and casual midweek catch-ups over pints, Whites Bar holds its own as a local staple. Whether you're a Dundee native or a visitor looking to skip the touristy circuit and dive straight into the heart of a real community bar, this spot delivers every time - loud, lively, and full of character.
Reviews
Great for watching live sports as well as having a pint or any other alcoholic or soft drinks. Very busy on football days and nice and close to both Dundee stadiums. Not a far walk from the city centre aswell which makes it a decent starting point for any night out. Drinks are served at an expected price. Never had food however there are other sources of entertainment such as karaoke and the puggy machines. Toilets also available.
Bar is good but there needs to be more staff. The 2 ladies working were run off their feet.
Friendly place and hard working pleasant staff. Service excellent when busy.
Lovely place for making friends
For 12:30 pm the service was extremely slow, waited over 15 mins to be served at the bar. Staff were good, just not enough of them.
